The Bureau of Multiverse Affairs Chapter 8
Chapter 8 The Weight of the Void Shepard stood on the walkway, dumbfounded. Where vast machines had stood mere seconds ago was now just empty space. The remaining Cybermen had also disappeared, leaving only their dead behind. “We failed.” The thought struck him like a sledgehammer. They had fought their way right to their objective, only to fail at the last hurdle. “DAMNIT!” he yelled, banging his fist against a railing. A heavy groan echoed around him, as if the whole room was twisting. “Shepard!” a voice crackled through his radio, “Shepard? Can you hear me?” “Huh? Yeah, Yeah, I hear you,” he replied, “Who is this?” “It’s Benton,” the voice replied, “The Cybermen just teleported the computer core out of the station. We’ve only got a few minutes before we get pulled into the gas giant!” “I hear you,” Shepard replied, “They got the station’s power plant as well. Head back to the Normandy as fast as you can.” “What about you?” “We’re heading back as well, but if you have

Chapter 7 In the Nick of Time “Are you sure about this?” Booker asked, holding the glass-fronted helmet sceptically, “I’ve done a lot of crazy things in my time, but taking a walk in space is a new one.” The private investigator was standing in the Normandy’s forward airlock, already wearing a bulky spacesuit and magnetic boots. With him was the ship’s silver-haired medical officer, Karin Chakwas. “You’re the only person here who can do it,” Doctor Chakwas replied, taking the helmet and placing it over his head. “Are you kidding lady? Up until yesterday, I didn’t even know space travel was possible!” “And I didn’t know that different universes existed until yesterday. We’re all learning new things Mr. DeWitte.” She locked the helmet into place and there was a rush of air as the suit pressurised. Booker sighed. The ship’s computer had detected something moving around the ship’s hull. They had not been able to get any images of it, but they knew it needed to be removed before

Chapter 6 The Monsters in the Machine “Doctor!” cried Sarah. “Nobody move! Put your hands up!” snapped a female voice. Staying still, the Doctor felt the weapon’s barrel dig into his skin. He could tell it was a shotgun by its width, not that it did him much good at that moment. “Let him go,” he heard Xena order in a deadly calm voice. “Stand down at once!” ordered Benton, swinging around, Sterling submachine gun at his shoulder, aimed at the person threatening the Doctor. “One move and your friend is history!” the woman threatened, jabbing the shotgun more forcefully against the Doctor’s neck. Still in the transit car with Sarah and Gabrielle, Xena unhooked the chakram from her belt. It was a circular blade designed for throwing, perfect for this sort of kill. Slowly she edged around the transit car’s doorway, getting a better view of the assailant. Standing in the doorway of a side room was a skinny woman with dark hair and wearing a set of green overalls, a long-barrelled

Chapter 5 The Ghosts of Sevastopol Station With a gentle hiss, the airlock opened, and a silent darkness greeted the two teams. Stepping forward, Shepard raised his M-76 Revenant machine gun and switched on its tactical torch, revealing a long, hexagon-shaped corridor. Casting the beam around, he saw boxes, tools and lengths of cable scattered across the floor, while several wall panels had been removed. “Stay alert everyone,” he ordered, “I don’t like the look of this.” With Tali and Garrus at his side, Shepard advanced down the corridor at a steady pace, keeping the Revenant aimed straight ahead. Sherlock and his companions followed, while Benton’s squad stayed a short distance behind. Before leaving the Normandy, each team member had been supplied with an electric torch and radio, allowing them to stay in contact anywhere on the station. The further they went, the more discarded equipment they came across, as if people had abandoned their work halfway through. “What on

Chapter 4 Into the Void An alarm sounded out, cutting through Shepard’s much-needed sleep. For a moment he groped blindly, trying to find the bedside clock. “Commander,” came EDI’s voice. “Wah?” he grunted. “Commander, we have an alert.” “Alert for what-” Shepard sat bolt upright, suddenly remembering the events of the previous day. “Tali,” he said, shaking the sleeping form beside him, “Tali wake up.” “Hmm,” she grumbled, silvery eyes opening, “What is it?” “The Lutece scanner has been activated,” explained EDI, “Moriarty’s forces are carrying out an attack.” “Inform the rest of the team EDI,” said Shepard pulling on a clean t-shirt and trousers, “I want everyone in the CIC in five minutes.” “Of course Commander,” the AI replied. It took a little longer than five minutes, but eventually the whole team had gathered in the CIC, looking expectantly at Shepard, now dressed in combat armour. “Alright EDI,” he said once Booker had arrived, rubbing sleep from his eyes, “What

Chapter 3 The First Briefing “How?... how did you?” Shepard tried to say, still gawking at his ship as it slipped gracefully through the air. “We have our means commander,” stated Rosalind. “But perhaps it would be best for you to contact your pilot,” said Robert, “I get the impression he’s rather disorientated at the present moment.” Tentatively, Shepard activated his communicator. “Shepard to Normandy, Shepard to Normandy, do you copy?” “Shepard?” came Joker’s voice through his earpiece. “Shepard is that you?” “I’m here Joker, on the ground.” He waved at the ship, though the gesture was unlikely to be seen from the Normandy’s cockpit. “What the hell is going on? Where are we?” “Let’s see about getting you landed first, I’ll try and explain everything then.” Shepard turned to Captain Sullivan. “Is there anywhere on this base with enough room to land my ship?” “It’s a tall order,” Sullivan replied, still looking in awe at the Normandy, “But there should be space

Chapter 2 A Mission of the Utmost Importance For a few seconds the five groups stared at one another in bafflement. One man wore what looked like a full suit of armour, his head closely shaven. At his side were two strange creatures. One was tall, with armour plates instead of skin, their face giving the impression of a bird of prey. The other was of slight build, wearing a full body suit, a purple and silver shawl wrapped around her masked head. There was a tall, extremely thin man with blond hair, wearing a deerstalker hat and tweed suit. An enormous man stood behind him, his head human in appearance while his body was clearly robotic. Next to him was a woman with short brown hair, wearing what looked like a set of light grey armour. By far, the strangest looking person in the room was a man wearing a battered fedora, maroon jacket, and a scarf so long that it trailed along the floor. With him was another man, wearing an olive green military uniform, and a woman, dressed in

Chapter 1 A Most Unorthodox Recruitment Galactic Core, 2185 An almighty boom roared through the air and Commander Shepard woke, feeling the floor beneath him shake violently. Sections of the Collector base’s wall were breaking apart all around and crashing down, throwing out lethal jets of flame and gigantic shards of metal. The place was falling apart, and the bomb they had planted at its core would blow at any minute. All the more reason he would not leave until he had found his squad mates. The last thing he remembered was that they had destroyed the Collector’s effort at creating a human Reaper, only for the abomination to smash the platform they had been standing on. Scrambling to his feet, Shepard realised he had been knocked out, but landed safely on a ledge. He looked around, but could not see the rest of his team. He had known attacking the Collector base was likely going to be a suicide mission, but that did not mean he was going to let it become one without a

Doctor Who and The Planet of The Teletubbies
Over the green hills and far away, on a distant planet in a distant galaxy, a warm breeze swept through a field of grass and a tree swayed in the serene wind. Birds tweeted to each other and rabbits frolicked around, looking for carrots. All was calm, nature was peaceful, and the sun shone brightly with a smile and a laugh high above in the noon sky. Today was a lovely day and the inhabitants of this planet were enjoying the peace. As leaves floated through the air, torn from the evergreen trees, a strange warbling noise started to make itself heard in the plane of existence. Moments later, a light glowed, and a blue box took shape. The warble became a wheezing and the sound continued until the object had fully materialized; a blue police public call box. Except, this wasn’t a telephone police box. It was a ship, a traveling machine from another world, once capable of taking other forms until a mechanism broke during one of the ship’s travels. And this ship was known as the
